But instead of rushing out to buy a new sofa, we decided to take matters into our own hands and embarked on a creative DIY project. With a few basic materials, including pinewood, Prettypegs, IKEA pillows, and Bemz covers, we managed to transform our small, mismatched sofa into a spacious and stylish piece of furniture.

For this DIY sofa project, you'll need 10 high-quality pinewood planks, each measuring 30x95mm and 3 meters in length. Begin by aligning 8 of these planks together, leaving a small gap between them to achieve a total depth of 850mm. Then, cut all 8 planks simultaneously at your desired length, which should be around 2.7 meters. This will serve as the foundation for your customized sofa.

To complete your DIY sofa project, begin by attaching the enclosed universal fitting plates using the screws provided by Prettypegs. Then, screw the M8 bolt into the sofa legs and proceed to attach them securely to the fitting plates. For a seamless finish on your DIY sofa, ensure that the backrest measures lower than 42mm, allowing the sofa pillows to gracefully conceal it. To securely attach the backrest to the remainder of the sofa, use numerous long screws, providing both stability and a clean, polished appearance. This step adds to the overall durability and appeal of your custom sofa design.

To achieve a flawless finish for your custom sofa, begin by polishing the pinewood with a fine-grit polish paper. Be meticulous in your approach, ensuring that all components are thoroughly polished, and always follow the natural direction of the wood lines. This step is vital for enhancing the overall appearance and feel of your sofa.

Additionally, if you wish to reduce the yellowish tint of the wood, consider applying IKEA Behandla oil with a touch of white pigment. This technique effectively transforms the wood of the sofa, creating a closer resemblance to the elegant ash finish of Prettypegs legs. The result is a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing sofa that seamlessly integrates with the rest of your interior decor.

Creating a custom handle for your sofa is a straightforward process. To craft the handle, start by securely gluing together 40mm thick pinewood pieces at the desired angle. Once the assembly is solid, use a saw to shape it into a 40mm thick form. For a comfortable grip, employ a 20mm radius milling technique to round the handle into a sleek rod-like structure.

To complete the handle, attach a rampa muff and secure it onto the sofa. This handle not only enhances the functionality of your sofa but also adds a unique and personalized touch to your custom creation. It's a simple yet effective way to elevate the overall design and usability of your sofa.

Crafting a custom sofa with an inviting design was a breeze with a few key elements. Our foundation was built using a single large IKEA Delaktig mattress, measuring 2 meters in length, providing ample seating space. To complement our structure, we incorporated three Delaktig backrests, ensuring comfort and style.

For the finishing touch, we opted for the exquisite Malmen Velvet Chestnut fabric from BEMZ. This high-quality fabric brought warmth and elegance to our creation, enhancing both the aesthetics and the comfort of the sofa. The convenience of the fabric's zippers made the installation process straightforward, resulting in the perfect look we had envisioned for our custom sofa.
